Common use
Avandia is an oral hypoglycemic agent belonging to the group of thiazolidinediones. It is a selective agonist of nuclear receptor PPAR (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma). Avandia lowers blood glucose by increasing insulin sensitivity of fat and liver tissues, skeletal muscles and improves metabolic processes, reduces blood levels of glucose, insulin and free fatty acids. Avandia is used to treat people with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. It may be used alone or in combination with metformin (Glucophage) or sulfonylureas as well as insulin.

Dosage and direction
Daily doses range from 4 to 8 mg and should be taken once or twice daily with or without food.
